Cobie van Oort, 4th Feb 2009

Had dinner at this outstanding restaurant last night with the ladies from my book club. There were 10 of us and we had many "strange" requests like having a quiet corner somewhere to do our book club discussion, lugging boxes of books around between the car park and our "corner" and much laughter and noise, which got worse as the wine started flowing.

Through all of this, not a twinge of discomfort or any weird looks - just helpful, friendly staff, running around to make sure we had a wonderful time. The food was interesting and beautifully presented, portions were generous, the wine was affordable and there were some really diferent wines to choose from - and yes, it's not a cheap evening.

But we thought it was well worth the expense and everyone said they would be back as soon as they could come up with a good enough reason to splurge a bit! Xena phoned today to make sure we were happy and that everything was to our satisfaction. I had to say yes, yes, yes - we had a great time!!

The Roundhouse deserves its reputation as one of Cape Town's top venues.

I enjoyed the Roundhouse - i think the best thing i enjoyed was the service - very discreet and not too 'in -your-face' and all the waiters seemed to know the dishes well when questions were asked. I loved the little things like if i was off to the bathroom a waiter would see me and rush ahead to open the door to that hallway - but not in an overdone kind of way.

The wine glasses were stunning - always make a difference to me - nice and FINE and BIG!!!
The food was lovely - there was nothing to complain about yet it also for me was nothing to rave about excessively - didn't stand out to me as being something extra special - but then i guess that is hard in this day and age of having to meet expectations set by other fab places.

I thought the presentation was amazing - especially the pickled oxtail and soft egg dish which i had - loved the texture and creaminess of that egg - quite special.

I also loved the little chef gifts - the fish and chip one was divine - i thought the tiramisu one was a bit icey - the ice crystals for me diluted the flavour. My main was the lamb confit with sweetbreads etc - nice but nothing to rave about - if anything i thought the lamb flesh was just a tad on the dry side (minimally so but almost too soft and shredded with a bit of the moistness gone - im not even sure if it was moistness or the meatiness and bite wasn't 100 per cent (being hypercritical here!))

The dessert was something lovely - i had the apricot and caramalized almond souflee with amaretto - im sorry i missed the presentation of it as i was in the bathroom and came back and the icecream had been poured - would have been nice if they had done everyones but did mine when id come back - but i guess they were busy. Very rich dessert - apricot/peach flavours quite intense - not usually the flavours i go for in a dessert but consistency and everything stunning - super soft.

Unfortunately we couldn't do the coffee thing as we all seemed to hit rock bottom around the same time - i was going to nod off at the table and needed to get home.
a lovely evening all in all.

Just a short and very belated note to say a huge thank you for the most wonderful New Year’s eve dinner and an amazing evening.

We were the group sitting at table 6. . I had hoped to attach some more relevant photos to remind you who we are but my computer is playing up!

I cannot tell you how much we enjoyed the whole evening. The food was absolutely wonderful and the wine complimented perfectly.

From the moment I spoke to Dale about availability early in the week right through to the end of the evening on New Year eve when our taxi collected us you treated us so well we felt privileged to have joined you.

It was by far the very best New Years eve we have ever spent and the memory of sitting at table 6 drinking champagne overlooking the whole of the bay at your beautiful restaurant will be with me forever.

I have two sets of friend also coming toCape Town in the next few months and needless to say that I have recommended you most highly.

You have an absolutely wonderful restaurant and your chef and staff are fantastic. I wish you all every success for the future.

Thank you once again.

Leon, Jan 4 2009,

A memorable evening indeed. The restaurant was fuller than usual (95 as opposed to the more usual 65 covers apparently) but the service did not falter and the food was sublime. Special touches included the unexpected "Happy anniversary" message on the plate on which was undoubtedly the best souffl?hat I have ever been served in a restaurant, and the "can do" attitude when we asked about wines not normally served by the glass (Silverthorn Green Man methode Cap Classique). This is fine dining in a great setting and while expensive (especially if you do the reserve wine pairing), I believe it?s worth it although the conventional pairing menu probably offers a better deal overall.

The Roundhouse restaurant in Camps Bay has truly surprised me. It is exceptional. 3*. well done PJ

David, 7 December 2008

Sandwiches @ Rumbulion, Roundhouse's outdoor addition were exceptional. Who would have thought R100 sandwiches that were worth it. The bread was fresh and sublime. 200g of salmon or sirloin, delicately accompanied. Genius.

Service is well trained as ever if a little automated, but credit where it is due, the training is taking.

All and any who want one day to be able to say they have eaten like a lord and have tasted wines their friends do not have at home, must take those friends out for dinner at the Roundhouse. It can be expensive, if you want it that way, but it need not be. It is high end with out a doubt - and impressive - but you can have a superb meal with good wine for competitive prices quite easily.

But I cannot paint the picture properly. You MUST go and try yourself. No regrets!!

I just wanted to thank you for a superb dinner on Saturday evening. My father, and
everyone else who joined us for his birthday, thoroughly enjoyed the Roundhouse.
The food was delicious and perfectly prepared, and the service from all your staff
was excellent!!!

I had been apprehensive about arranging a dinner at a restaurant at which I had never
eaten. However, I thought that if the food was nearly as good as your service in booking
and planning the meal, then we shouldn’t be disappointed. And we certainly weren’t
disappointed. We were all impressed from the moment we parked, throughout dinner,
and out the door at the end of the evening… at no point did we feel pressured by staff,
yet whenever anyone needed something, someone was there to assist. My father
commented that he accidentally knocked a glass of wine over, and the glass hadn’t
even touched the table before there was a waiter catching it and quietly covering
the spill without making any fuss.

Please extend my compliments to your chef, Ronan, the kitchen staff and to all the
waiters who attended to our table. I will certainly be recommending the Roundhouse
to all my friends, family and colleagues.

Thank you again.

Kind regards,
Elizabeth

I feel absolutely compelled to give you feedback on our dining experience last night.
I visited your restaurant last night with 4 guests and enjoyed a truly delightful evening
comprising, excellent service from the time we drove down your road and were assisted
in finding parking, to the greeting at the door, to the introduction of the team, to the passion
with which the food was described, to the delivery of the food, to the superb quality of the
presentation and taste, to the winding down of the evening with the stunning warm Apple
drink and the greetings upon our departure.

Since returning to SA after 13 years in North America and eating out most evenings in the last
17 months at a selection of top rated restaurants in CPT and JHB, The Round House has knocked
them all for a 6.

12 out of 10 is our rating for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We will be back regularly and will highly recommend you.

Kind regards,
Mark

A couple of us went to The Roundhouse for lunch a couple of Saturdays ago and it was superb! I think The Roundhouse is the best news for restaurant lovers in Cape Town in a long time. From the welcoming greeting outside to the view, the service the food and the ambience it was all excellent. We will be back!

Dave, 12 August 2008

Stunning setting. This restaurant reflects a real sense of elegant Cape history. Excellent service..contempory food with a strong local influence and a carefully chosen wine list . Dining here is like eating in the country, only not as far away. This place is going to kill in summer
Service: 5/5
Food: 5/5

Hello to everyone at the Roundhouse!

Our visit last night was absolutely magical! I left thinking the evening doesn't feel
real, but instead like a dream .. Thank you to each and everyone of you that made it
so special, but also specifically to the following people:

Alex: Thank you for being one of the best waiters we've ever had! Throughout the
evening you were so attentive, helpful, friendly and patient .. and thank you so much
for the tour after dinner (especially the visit to the kitchen - it was such a honour to be
able to see "behind the scenes" and to meet Ronan)! Alex, you are great!

Ronan: Thank you for allowing us a quick look into your domain! It is indeed a moment
I will personally always treasure! And the food was delicious! Please convey our thanks
to all your kitchen staff!

Fasie (? I think Alex mentioned this to be the spelling of your name): Thank you for being a
fabulous host! Your patience with our indecisiveness, sharing your knowledge on the wine,
and just in general creating a warm and happy atmosphere .. thank you so much!

The guys outside who prevented us from stepping into potholes: We are truly grateful .. and
thank you for the very warm welcome!

As I also mentioned last night, we really enjoy eating out and have visited quite a few places ..
measured against all of these, yours is indeed a very precious find .. a true jewel!

We are looking forward so much to the 29th for our next visit! And I'm convinced there will be
many more after that!

Kind regards
Karin

Definitely one of the best restaurants in Cape Town at the moment. Outstanding service, great
food and reasonable prices. I'm very glad such a great establishment opened again with such a
superior standard. Can't wait for my next meal there!

Susan, August 6 2008

I can honestly say it was the best dinner I have ever had in my entire life and the service was
outstanding - ambience spectacular.
